Dr. Carl R. Thornfeldt, MD, FAAD recently retired as a practicing dermatologist after nearly 39 of private practice in rural Idaho. In those years, he dedicated his life to helping alleviate problem skin conditions and improving the overall health of his patients. His belief is that patients living in rural areas deserve access to high quality health care.
Dr. Thornfeldt received his medical degree in 1977 from Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. He completed surgical internship at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. Then stationed at the U.S. Naval submarine base in Holy Loch, Scotland as the general practice physician for three and a half years where he received commendations. Dr. Thornfeldt completed his dermatology residency specialty training at University Hospital, U.C. San Diego in 1983. He then moved to southwest Idaho where he practiced as the only dermatologist for 10 counties spread over 30,000 square miles for over 30 years.
He has 22 U.S. patents granted, and has published approximately 50 scientific articles, including chapters in more than 10 textbooks focused on cosmeceuticals, delivery systems, natural products and unique dermatology therapy options. In addition, he published the book The New Ideal in Skin Health: Separating Fact from Fiction. He has also spent thirty-five years researching abnormalities of the skin barrier, delivery systems and herbs and topical therapies for skin diseases for skin diseases.
He is the founder and CEO of Episciences, Inc – the producer and worldwide distributor of Epionce skin care line. After years of skin barrier research and seeing first-hand the effects of skin disease in his private practice, Dr. Thornfeldt developed the Epionce skin care line and quickly began seeing dramatic improvements in his patient’s clinical responses.
Dr. Thornfeldt speaks throughout the United States and internationally about topics in dermatology, skin disease and innovative therapies. He has been quoted in numerous national publications. He continually researches new approaches to treating diseases and improving skin care and how to apply them to patients to improve disease clearance, prolong remissions, prevent recurrence and reduce side effects of prescription drugs.
